I just read a great piece in The New York Times entitled Enlisting a Global Workforce of Freelancers. While this is a great idea in theory, I have been witness to many people getting bit in the be-hind in trying to hire freelancers to fill in some gaps in the organization. Freelancers are great if you know what it is you’re asking them for. I try to use freelancers as much as possible as the costs are much lower than bringing it in house or hiring a high-cost agency to do the work. Last night I hosted an open house for women involved in the Hatch Network, a “modern business school where women start and grow their businesses together.” Unfortunately the rain prevented us from our planned Walkabout in the SF Marina, but we were able to enjoy cocoa and cookies as we discussed our businesses in a relaxed setting.
